The mission of Good Grief is "to empower, educate and support Widows to live with their grief rather than in their grief".  In 2015 and within days of her husband's death, Suzy Petty desperately googled "how to be a widow". She ordered 3 books, discounted 2, and found the 3rd book, "From One Widow to Another" by Miriam Neff, exactly what she needed and invited a few widows to read one chapter at a time together.  Not wanting to quit after completing the book, the ladies continued to meet weekly, discussing widowhood.  Word of a gathering group spread fast and numerous widows asked if they could join.  Good Grief was born, becoming a weekly support/educational sisterhood.  Two support groups with their own facilitators celebrated their first anniversary recently, one in Shelton and one in Bremerton.  The original group remains in Belfair and is facilitated by Suzy.  She earned a certificate in Comprehensive Bereavement Skills Training from Alan D. Wolfelt, Center for Loss and Life Transition and mentors the group leaders.

The Good Grief Foundation, a non-profit, was formed in 2022 for the purpose of seeking funds to offer for financial assistance to the ladies.
